FAMILY OWNED & OPERATED

In 1997 Holly Pond Mayor Dane Estes and Homer Gibbs, a local business owner and community leader, approached Ottis and Gelene Shedd to build a funeral home in Holly Pond, since they already had successful funeral homes in Blount county. Both Ottis and Gelene had grown up in the Holly Pond community, so they made the decision to build in Holly Pond.

After construction was completed in early 1998, the next step was to staff the funeral home. The Shedd’s oldest daughter, Carole, who lived in south Alabama, had extensive experience working with the public throughout her professional career. It was decided that Carole would move back home and become the Holly Pond Funeral Home business manager.

Carole Shedd Colvard received her Pre-Need Insurance License and Apprentice Funeral Directors License in 1998. In 2000, Carole received her Funeral Director’s license and was promoted to General Manager. Her husband, Robert Colvard, a retired accountant, joined the business in 2007. From inception, Ottis and Gelene Shedd have been dedicated to the belief that all people are to be treated with the same respect and compassion as a member of their own family. It is this belief that the second generation has committed themselves. We pay attention to every detail, providing families an assurance of knowing that their loved one is being honored in a very special way. Licensed directors are available to provide prompt and caring services 24 hours a day. We pride ourselves on personal service at every level. Holly Pond Funeral Home is a full service funeral home and can guide you through the loss of a loved one or in planning for the future.
