Monica Lynn Ayers

November 30, 1962 — June 7, 2021

Monica Lynn Ayers

Monica Lynn Ayers, 58, of Holly Pond, was welcomed home by her Heavenly Father, surrounded by those she loved most, on Monday morning, June 7, 2021.

Monica was born November 30, 1962, in Cullman County, to Hubert Russell and Donna Kay Turner Walker. Monica spent her life serving others. Her official title was daycare operator, but she was really a second mother to her babies. Mama Monk, as she was known to many, spent thirty-four years as the owner/operator of Monk’s Playtime in Holly Pond. She also served many years as the housekeeper at Holly Pond First Baptist, where she was a member, as well as serving as a greeter and funeral assistant at Holly Pond Funeral Home. She was a board member of the Cullman County Sports Hall of Fame, as well as an inductee. Monica was a giving person. She was always the first to have a meal prepared for a grieving family, a sick neighbor, or anyone she believed to be in need. Monica believed in the power of prayer, and you could believe her when she said she was praying for you. She always said she loved you when she saw you, and she meant it.

As much as Monica enjoyed her daycare babies, nothing compared to her love for her family. She was a devoted wife and mother. She cheered loud at every sporting event her boys participated in! Her love for her grandchildren was as great as her love for her boys. There was no greater joy in her life than being ‘Nana’ to Parker and Walker. Monica loved her family with all that was in her.

Monica was welcomed into heaven by her mother, Donna Walker.

She is survived by her husband, Gary Ayers; sons, Nathan Ayers (Laney), Aaron Ayers; grandchildren, Parker and Walker Ayers; father, Hubert Walker; and brother, Russell Walker (Donna).

Funeral services for Monica are 12 noon, Saturday, June 12, 2021, at New Hope #2 Baptist Church, Bro. Ralph McGowan and Bro. Benjamin Smothers officiating. Terry Ayers, Rick Rolin, Coach Bill Oliver, Van Cone, Mitch Morris, Eric Walker, David Briscoe, and Brandon Lloyd will serve as pallbearers. Friends are invited to visit with the family on Saturday, from 9 a.m., until services begin at 12 noon.. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, it was Monica’s request that donations be made to the family of Lillie Handley to help her continue her battle with cancer.

Holly Pond Funeral Home is honored to serve the Ayers family.
